The Plot of Veer-Zaara (2004)

The film begins with Saamia Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji), a Pakistani human rights lawyer, who is assigned to defend Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), an Indian Air Force pilot who has been imprisoned in Pakistan for 22 years. She meets Veer in his cell and learns his story through a series of flashbacks.

Veer was a rescue pilot who saved Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta), a Pakistani girl who was stranded in India after a bus accident. Zaara was on her way to India to fulfill her late grandmother's last wish of immersing her ashes in the holy river. Veer took Zaara to his ancestral village in Punjab, where he introduced her to his family and friends. The two fell in love and decided to elope, but their plan was foiled by Zaara's fiance Raza (Manoj Bajpayee), who had followed her to India. Raza accused Veer of kidnapping Zaara and had him arrested by the Pakistani authorities.

Veer was tortured and imprisoned without a trial or a lawyer. He refused to reveal his identity or contact his family, as he believed that Zaara had betrayed him and married Raza. He also did not want to cause any trouble for his country or his loved ones. He resigned himself to his fate and lived only for the memory of Zaara.

Saamia was moved by Veer's story and decided to fight for his freedom. She faced many obstacles and opposition from the Pakistani establishment, especially from Raza, who was now a powerful politician. She also discovered that Zaara was still alive and had not married Raza. She had escaped from his clutches and had devoted her life to running an orphanage in Veer's village, waiting for him to return.

Saamia managed to prove Veer's innocence and secured his release. She also reunited him with Zaara, who had come to Pakistan to testify for him. The film ends with Veer and Zaara returning to India together, where they are welcomed by Veer's family and friends.
